Therefore the Hortgro Bursary program was established to assist students who wish to pursue a career in the Agricultural industry. Hortgro’s Bursary program aims to provide financial cover to selected candidates who are academically deserving.
Hortgro was founded in 1652 from planting deciduous fruit trees in the Cape of Good Hope to sell to passing ships. Hortgro has since been involved in the South African fruit export industry and now focuses on production, communication, markets, research, technology, and transformation within the deciduous fruit industry.
This Bursary opens on 15 May 2021 and closes on 15 August 2021.

This Bursary program was established in 2007 and has contributed over R35 million in funding towards improving the labor force in Agriculture. The Hortgro Bursary aims to assist students who study, or wish to study in Agricultural fields.
This Bursary requires candidates to be studying at an undergraduate or postgraduate level. Students are required to maintain a high academic performance if they wish to be considered for this bursary. Hortgro’s Bursary is set to cover a candidate’s study-related fees, and renewal is based on each year’s academic performance.
Hortgro’s goal is to improve the deciduous fruit industry. To achieve this, they’ve aimed to promote employment and growth within the deciduous fruit industry as it is a major contributor to South Africa’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Their Bursary program achieves this goal by providing the means to improve labour and bring in more innovative minds for the betterment of Agriculture. Hortgro cares about the people in their industry and the environment they work in. They set high standards for themselves and what they do, and constantly aim for improvement within their industry.
This bursary applies to all undergraduate and postgraduate students studying in the fields of Agriculture.

This bursary only finances a student’s tuition fees, accommodation, and prescribed books. Please be aware that these expenses are not fully covered, and are only funded up to a limited amount.
