South African Society for Animal Science (SASAS) Bursary 2023-2024

Great news for postgraduate students in the animal science field!

The South African Society for Animal Science (SASAS) is offering the chance for students to apply for their bursary program.

This is a great opportunity for students who really want to take their qualifications a step further and secure a solid career in their respective fields.

Closing Date

This bursary program will be closing on 31 March 2022. Please make sure that your application and support documents are submitted before this date.

Failure to do so will result in your application not being considered for selection in this bursary program.

What is The SASAS Bursary?

This bursary program was established by the South African Society for Animal Science as a means to enrich and grow the research of animal science in the country.

The organization works as a foundation where animal scientists operating in different industries can come together, share their research, and create new solutions and innovations to the field and the livestock industry.

The bursary program will provide financial support to deserving candidates and will invite these qualified individuals to start a membership with the society.

What Will This Bursary Cover?

This bursary will provide financial cover for a student’s academic expenses. The exact value of the bursary will be determined by the SASAS bursary council and will be dependent on the student’s circumstances.

The funding will be paid directly to the candidate in 2 installments on the condition that they keep their SASAS membership valid at all times.

Who Can Apply

This bursary is only available to postgraduate students studying toward an Honours or Master’s Degree in Animal Science/ Production.

However, these students will still need to meet the following criteria set by the SASAS:

  • Applicants can belong to any nationality.
  • Applicants need to have a BSc(Agric.) qualification in Animal Science or Animal Production.
  • Applicants must have graduated from a recognized university in South Africa.
  • Applicants must be valid members of the SASAS. Join here if you aren’t.
  • Applicants need to be registered to be studying towards one of the qualifications mentioned above.
  • Applicants need to be registered to study at a recognized university in South Africa.
  • Applicants need to have a strong academic record (cum laude)
  • Applicants must have completed their Honours degree within 2 years or their Master’s Degree in 4 years.

How To Apply

Applications for this bursary are as simple as it comes. All you have to do is complete this online form here.

Once you have that done, remember to include the following support documents:

  • A certified copy of your latest qualification certificate.
  • A certified copy of an official statement of subjects completed.
  • A letter of recommendation from a study leader.
