What Is This Bursary About?
The Department of Environment, Forestry, and Fisheries (DEFF) was renamed to the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE) in April 2021. The Department of Environmental Affairs and the forestry and fisheries division of the Department of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries merged to establish the Department of Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment (DFFE), a department of the South African government, in 2019. (DAFF).
The preservation, enhancement, and protection of South Africa’s environment and natural resources fall under the purview of the DFFE.
For the academic year 2023, the Department of Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment (DFFE) is encouraging students to apply for its bursary program.

Before applying, candidates must meet the minimum entry requirements listed below (please note that if you do not meet all of the requirements, your application will not be considered):
- You must be a resident of South Africa.
- You must be enrolled in or have already completed high school.
- You must be pursuing a degree in one of the fields mentioned above full-time or have plans to do so.
- You must be enrolled in, or plan to enroll in, a South African higher institution that is recognized and accredited.
- You cannot be working.
- NOT being a DFFE employee is a must.
- Priority will be given to those who have experienced disadvantages and those who are disabled.
What Does This Bursary Cover?
The maximum amount of the bursary will be R50,000.
The deadline for contacting successful candidates is January 31, 2023; if you have not heard anything by then, please consider your application to have been rejected.
Successful bursary applicants must sign a contract with the government outlining their obligations.
