Agricultural Research Council (ARC) Bursary 2023-2024

Then this might be the next chapter for you. The Agricultural Research Council (ARC) is now accepting applications for its bursary program.

If you can see yourself getting involved in this program, then you need to apply right away.

You will need to meet a few requirements that have been set by the council to be considered an ideal candidate. Below is a guide on how this bursary works and what it will need from students during applications.

Closing Date

The Agricultural Research Council (ARC) Bursary application period will end on 29 August 2022.

Please make sure to submit your application and any other supporting materials by this date.

Your application won’t be taken into account by the bursary provider if you don’t do this.

What Is This Bursary About?

The Agriculture Research Council (ARC) is a renowned research organization that offers the whole South African agricultural sector a solid scientific foundation and a widely dispersed technology transfer capacity.

Agricultural Research – Crops and Livestock, Agricultural Economics, Technology transfer, Biotechnology, Animal Health, Plant Health, Proteomics, Agricultural Capacity Development, and Natural Resource Management are some of ARC’s areas of expertise.

Through its Professional Development Programme, the ARC and the Agricultural Sector Education & Training Authority (AgriSETA) are providing bursaries to students studying agricultural science (PDP).

For the academic year 2023, the Agricultural Research Council (ARC) is encouraging students to apply for its bursary program.

Who Can Apply

Awarded are bursaries for postgraduate (BSc or Honours, Masters, and Ph.D.) courses in engineering, agricultural sciences, and allied disciplines.

Before applying, candidates must meet the minimum admission requirements listed below (please note that if you do not meet all of the requirements, your application will not be considered):

  • You must be a resident of South Africa.
  • You must be pursuing or plan to pursue a postgraduate degree in one of the subjects mentioned above.
  • You must be enrolled at a public tertiary institution in South Africa (such as a university or university of technology).
  • You need to have a good academic history.
  • Applications from students with disabilities are encouraged.
  • Applications are encouraged from students in the Coloured, Indian, and White communities.

What Does This Bursary Cover?

To help with tuition costs, bursaries worth R63 300 will be given out each year.

Only those who are chosen will be contacted. Please consider your application unsuccessful if you don’t hear anything within two weeks of the application deadline.

How To Apply

Applications are quite simple. All you need to do is complete the online application form which you can find here.

Applicants must use the relevant reference number when applying:

  • BSc/ Honours students: HCD01Masters
  • Masters students: HCD02Doctoral
  • PhD students: HCD05Postdoc

Along with your completed application form, send in clear copies of the following supporting documents (submitting these documents is required; if any are missing, your application may be rejected):

  • Identity card (certified copy).
  • academic achievements and credentials (certified copies).
  • M.Sc./M.Sc. for Ph.D. candidates: an honors diploma (certified copy).
  • Proof of enrollment or acceptance for the 2022 academic year (on institutions letterhead).
  • Account Statement and Fee Schedule (on institutions letterhead).
  • A motivational letter outlining your qualifications for the scholarship (maximum 200 words).
