Closing Date

Applications for the Amazon Web Services Bursary need to be in between 1 May to 1 September 2022.

So please make sure that you have submitted your application and any requested supporting documents before this date.

If you don’t, your application will not be accepted by Amazon and it will be disqualified from the selection process.

What is The AWS Bursary?

This bursary is aimed at providing financial assistance to students looking to gain a qualification in Commerce, Business Science, Engineering, IT, and Computer Science at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

These fields are relevant to the technology industry and are ideal for Amazon’s operations.

The bursary will be awarded on the basis of financial need and merit on the candidate’s behalf and for their studies at an accredited South African university.

Who Can Apply

The AWS Bursary program will give preference to applicants with disabilities.

The program is looking for applicants that are involved in the following studies:

Undergraduate Degree applicants:

  • Engineering, Computer Science, and IT.
  • Bachelor of Commerce (specializing in Accounting and Finance)
  • Electrical / Electronics / Mechanical / Mechatronics / Civil Engineering.

Year level: First to final year students.

Postgraduate Degree Programs:

Honors or Post Graduate Diploma and Masters Degree in:

  • Engineering, Computer Science, and IT.
  • Bachelor of Commerce (specializing in Accounting and Finance)
  • Electrical / Electronics / Mechanical / Mechatronics / Civil Engineering.

Applicants will also need to meet the following criteria set by Amazon:

  • Applicants need to be South African citizens.
  • Applicants need to have strong leadership qualities.
  • Applicants need a minimum score of 75% for Mathematics and English in Matric.
  • Applicants need an overall average above 65% for their Tertiary studies.

What Does This Bursary Cover?

The AWS Bursary will provide financial cover for the following:

  • Tuition fees
  • Accommodation
  • Prescribed books and stationery
  • A laptop
  • Transport
  • Meals

Please be aware that this financial cover will be capped.
