What Is This Bursary Program?

ATNS is now accepting applications from qualified students for its bursary program for the 2023 academic year.

The corporation is giving three types of scholarships, and successful candidates will be able to continue their studies at the ATNS Aviation Training Academy (ATA), which is located in Bonaero Park, Johannesburg. The following are the bursaries:

1) Bursary for AIMO (Aeronautical Information Management Officer):

AIMOs (Aeronautical Information Management Officers) collaborate closely with numerous sources of information, which is subsequently used by ATCOs (Air Traffic Control Officers) to guarantee aircraft safety. Pilots use this information when taking off, flying, and landing their planes. AIMOs’ principal function is to process and communicate aeronautical information required to keep the air traffic system safe, regular, and efficient.

2) Bursary for ATSO (Air Traffic Services Officer):

ATSOs (Air Traffic Service Officers) assist Air Traffic Controllers in their regular activities such as answering phones and using radio transceivers for air traffic-related operations. ATSOs have the chance to further their careers in Air Traffic Management as key parts of the air navigation team, such as ATCO2/3 (Approach Procedural and Radar Air Traffic Control Officer), ATCO1 (Aerodrome Air Traffic Control Officer), and ATCO3 (Area Procedural and Radar Air Traffic Control Officer).

The ATSO training curriculum is divided into three stages:

  • Core Content Course: This 21-week theory-based foundation course is hosted by ATA in Gauteng.
  • ATS Rating Course: This practical-based course, which supplements theory instruction, is also offered by ATA in Gauteng.
  • ATS Validation: This practical module, which includes on-the-job training, will take place at Cape Town International Airport or OR Tambo International.

3) Bursary for AMC (Airport Management Centre) Liaison Officer:

The AMC Liaison Officer is ATNS’s representative at the Airport Management Centre. Their primary role is to detect air traffic control-related occurrences and, in coordination with appropriate AMC personnel, formulate and support action plans to handle those events.
