What Is This Bursary About?

Feenix was created in reaction to the #FeesMustFall movement, which gained traction among university students in South Africa in 2015 and 2016. Standard Bank was one of the original partners of Feenix, a public benefit organization and, a crowd-funding platform.

Feenix offers three ways to support students at public universities:

1. Crowdfunding: In order to raise money for their unpaid university tuition, students can publish their personal stories on the crowdfunding website.

2. Bursary programs: These programs enable organizations to finance university students who still owe money on their student loans.

3. Full student support: Students get all-around development assistance to make sure they succeed in school and in the workforce.

For funder reporting reasons, bursary recipients must provide progress reports throughout the course of the following 12 months (to determine if the candidate is continuing with their studies or has found employment).

Before a final decision is made, selected candidates for the Feenix Debt Bursary award will have to show proof that they have finished their degrees by February 2023. Successful students will get their bursaries in March 2023.

Candidates that are selected will be notified by phone and email.
