Robben Island Museum Bursary 2022 – 2023

The Robben Island Museum is now inviting students to apply for its bursary program.

Closing Date

Applications for the Robben Island Bursary will be closing on 14 July 2022.

Please make sure that your application and all supporting documents are submitted before this date.

If you fail to do so, your application will not be considered for selection by the Museum.

What is The Robben Island Museum Bursary?

This bursary is a financial aid plan that will award necessary funding to ideal candidates that meet the requirements set by the Robben Island Museum Bursary program.

This is to ensure that the Museum recruits those who are not only qualified but passionate about the same mission.

The Robben Island Museum believes in layered heritage and aims to conserve this knowledge as is it a big part of the culture and freedom that South Africa experiences today.

Who Can Apply

This bursary program will cater to postgraduate students that are involved in the following fields:

  • History.
  • Oral History.
  • Social Science.
  • Museums and Heritage.
  • Studies related to Heritage.

Bursary candidates will be required to do an Internship and Research Program with the Robben Island Museum’s Heritage Education Department.

Candidates will also be required to take part in various programs hosted by the museum.

Potential applicants will also need to meet the following requirements to be considered for selection:

  • Applicants must be South African citizens.
  • Applicants must be students who have applied independently at a recognized South African university for the 2022 academic year.
  • Applicants must have applied to study toward a postgraduate qualification in one of the fields mentioned above.
  • Applicants must be registered to study toward a postgraduate qualification in one of the fields mentioned above.

What Does This Bursary Cover?

This bursary will award partial financial cover toward tuition fees at a maximum amount of R35 000 per selected candidate.

How To Apply

Applications for the Robben Island Museum Bursary are pretty simple. All you will need to do is have the following support documents at hand:

  • Proof of registration at your chosen university.
