The South African National Zakar Fund has been giving back to communities for over 45 years. There is no limit to their generosity and education is no exception.
That’s why the SANZAF is providing the opportunity for students to apply for their annual bursary program for the 2022 academic year. It is open to students in Durban and will provide financial support to students that need to fund their tertiary education.
Naturally, this bursary program does have set requirements for applicants in order to choose the best candidates. Below is a breakdown for applicants on what exactly this bursary is, how it operates, and what it expects.
Closing Date
This bursary will close on 28 February 2022. Please ensure that you submit your application along with all support documents before this closing date. If not, you will be disqualified from the SANZAF’s selection.
What Is The SANZAF Bursary Program?
The SANZAF bursary program was founded to help enrich poor communities by providing financial aid to students looking to further their studies in tertiary education.
The fund is faith-based and is focused on the empowerment and upliftment of Muslim communities. The SANZAF Bursary is open to all students and caters to any field of the candidate. However, the program does have set requirements that applicants need to meet to be in the running for this bursary.
Who Can Apply?
The bursary is open to all students and caters to all fields of study. However, applicants need to meet the following criteria set by the SANZAF:
- Applicants must be South African citizens.
- Applicants must reside in Durban, KwaZulu Natal.
- Applicants must prove their need for financial support.
- Applicants must be from a financially needy background.
- You need to have applied to the NSFAS before applying for this bursary.
- Applicants must be studying or intend to study at a recognized tertiary institution.
- Applicants must have matriculated or be in their matric year.
- Or must be studying at a tertiary institution and were sponsored by a family member or yourself in the previous academic year.
- Or must be currently studying at a tertiary institution and were sponsored by SANZAF in the previous academic year.
What Does The SANZAF Bursary Program Cover?
This bursary will cover fees related to a candidate’s specific field of study and the institution they are enrolled or wish to enroll with. The SANZAF bursary committee will evaluate each application and shortlist chosen candidates.
These candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview. From here, candidates will be given feedback and those selected will receive a Confirmation of Pledge letter.
All bursary payments will be made directly into the institution’s account and candidates will need to pay their registration fees on their own.

Matric
- Certified copy of your ID.
- Certified copy of your latest results.
- A motivational letter supporting why you would be an ideal candidate for this bursary.
- A testimonial from your school.
- Your parent or guardian’s proof of income.
Tertiary (not previously sponsored)
- Certified copy of your ID.
- Certified copy of your matric final results.
- Latest academic results from your tertiary institution.
- Testimonial from your institution or religious leader.
- Proof of household income.
Tertiary (currently sponsored)
- Certified copy of your matric final results.
- 2021 academic mid-year results.
- Proof of household income.
