Closing Date
The SOLA Bursary application period will end on 10 September 2022.
Please make sure to submit your application and any other supporting materials by this date.
Your application won’t be taken into account by the bursary provider if you don’t do this.

What Is This Bursary About?
Located in Johannesburg and Cape Town, South Africa, SOLA is a business that installs solar energy systems. Since 2008, the business has been a provider of renewable energy options across the whole continent of Africa.
Large-scale solar systems and other renewable energy installations are the company’s area of expertise. With more than 13 years of experience, SOLA has worked on some of South Africa’s biggest renewable energy projects.
The company is now looking for students passionate about engineering to apply for its bursary program.
The SOLA bursary’s objective is to promote solar PV knowledge among electrical engineers in South Africa.
Who Can Apply
Bursaries will be given for studies in Electrical Engineering for a BEng or BSc qualification.
Before applying, candidates must meet the minimum admission requirements listed below (please note that if you do not meet all of the requirements, your application will not be considered):
- You must be a resident of South Africa.
- You must be pursuing a BEng or BSc in Electrical Engineering and come from a historically underprivileged background.
- In 2023, you must be beginning your last year of undergraduate education.
- You must be enrolled in a tertiary institution in Cape Town that is recognized and accredited.
- You must have finished a solar PV project or assignment (in your academic or personal capacity)
- You must be prepared and able to operate in a fast-paced, dynamic atmosphere.
What Does This Bursary Cover?
This bursary will award successful candidates with the following benefits:
- Funding for tuition costs up to a maximum of R75,000.
- The opportunity to perform paid vacation labor (with a stipend to cover the cost of traveling to and from the office).
- Aiding with solar PV designs and solar feasibility studies, and receiving practical on-the-job training.
- Mentorship from a seasoned engineer to help you develop your skills as an engineer.
- The possibility to acquire exposure and networking opportunities from a reputable solar PV company Opportunities to learn about and gain insight into the whole value chain of South Africa’s solar PV industry.
- The offer of a fixed-term job as a graduate engineer following graduation.
How To Apply
Applications are quite simple. Your first step will require you to complete an online questionnaire which you can find here. A student’s eligibility to apply for the bursary will be determined by the information gathered from the questionnaire. Shortlisted candidates may be asked for more details and paperwork.
