TETA WMU Scholarship 2022 – 2023

Any students looking to take their qualifications a step further in ocean-related studies are in luck!

The Transport Education Training Authority (TETA) is inviting students to apply for its scholarship program for the 2022 – 2023 academic year.

This scholarship will provide financial cover for a candidate’s study expenses at the World Maritime University (WMU) in Sweden.

Below is a detailed guide on exactly how this scholarship works and what it will need from all students during the application process.

Closing Date

The TETA Scholarship program will be closing its application acceptance on 6 May 2022.

So please make sure that you have submitted your application and all supporting documents before this date.

If you don’t, your application will not be accepted by the organization and it will be disqualified from the selection process.

What is The TETA WMU Scholarship?

This scholarship will provide financial cover to successful candidates while they continue their studies at the World Maritime University in Malmo, Sweden.

This scholarship is open to students involved in ocean-related studies and the maritime sector.

The scholarship will provide financial assistance to an MSc in Maritime Affairs.

This scholarship will last for a total of 14 months, beginning in September 2022 and concluding in November 2023.

The program will be broken up into 3 different phases:

  • Foundation Studies (this provides a thorough base study in maritime policy and the IMO system for maritime governance, as well as introduces students to the environmental, economic, and managerial aspects of the ocean. Students will also start preparing for their dissertation in the research methodology subject.)
  • Specialization Studies (students will have the choice of 1 of 7 maritime fields: Maritime Education & Training, Maritime Energy Management, Maritime Law & Policy, Maritime Safety & Environmental Administration, Ocean Sustainability, Governance & Management, Port Management, or Shipping Management & Logistics)
  • Dissertation (students are required to complete a dissertation based on a certain problem relating to their work in their residing country or on a current or emerging maritime issue. Dissertation topics and proposals must be approved by the University and may involve their original research or be an analysis of a topic based on secondary sources. Students may complete the dissertation individually, in pairs, or trios.)

Please be aware that preference will be given to female candidates and middle managers for this scholarship.

Who Can Apply

This scholarship program is open to South African employees involved in the broader maritime sector.

However, there are a few requirements that applicants will need to meet to be considered for this scholarship:

  • Applicants must be South African citizens.
  • Applicants must be accepted by WMU.
  • Applicants must be currently employed.
  • Applicants must have been in the same occupation for a minimum of 12 months.
  • Applicants must have 3 years of experience in the maritime sector in South Africa.
  • Applicants must have received permission from their current employer that they can apply for the scholarship and be allowed to return to work after completion of the program.

What Does This Scholarship Cover?

The TETA WMU Scholarship will provide a candidate with financial cover during their time with the World Maritime University.

The program will cover study-related fees. The extent of this is undisclosed and will only be revealed to successful candidates at the organization’s discretion.
