Upstream Training Trust (UTT) Student Bursary

The Upstream Training Trust (UTT) is offering a Student Bursary for South Africans who wish to pursue studies in disciplines related to the upstream oil and gas industry. The bursary aims to support and develop future professionals by easing the financial burden of tertiary education. Applications close on 31 October 2025.

Upstream Training Trust (UTT) is a trust established to develop skills and capacity for South Africa’s upstream petroleum industry. Through financial support and training initiatives, UTT seeks to increase participation from previously disadvantaged groups and female students in the oil and gas sector.

  • Value: The bursary is valued at R120 000, covering student needs such as tuition fees, accommodation, textbooks and food.
  • Fields supported: Students wishing to pursue or currently studying disciplines relevant to the petroleum, oil and gas industries, including: Geoscience, Geophysics, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, Information Systems, Information Technology, Chemistry, Physical Science and Mathematics.

  • South African citizens currently in matric or enrolled at a university.
  • Students pursuing Geosciences, Environmental Sciences, Engineering, Information Systems or Information Technology.
  • Applicants must meet the minimum pass requirements of their institution and show passion for the upstream oil and gas industry.
  • Preference is given to learners from previously disadvantaged areas and female students.
  • Applicants may not already hold another bursary.

31 October 2025. Applications open annually from May to the end of September, and late or incomplete applications will not be considered.

Applicants must complete an online application and attach certified copies of required documents. Forms and online applications are available on the Upstream Training Trust website. Feedback on the outcome of applications is usually provided by the end of January.
