W&RSETA UJ Bursary 2023-2024

Here’s a great opportunity for postgraduate students involved in marketing and retail.

The University of Johannesburg (UJ) is now inviting students to apply for its bursary program.

This is an excellent way for eager and qualified students to receive the necessary education they need to achieve their academic goals without having to deal with the financial burden that comes with it.

If you ever wanted to use your education to get involved in the logistics sector, then this may be the bursary for you.

Don’t waste any time, apply as soon as you can. Below is a guide we’ve made that breaks down this bursary and shows you how applications work.

Closing Date

The W&RSETA UJ Bursary application period will end on 19 August 2022 for current students and 31 October 2022 for new students.

Please make sure to submit your application and any other supporting materials by this date.

Your application won’t be taken into account by the bursary provider if you don’t do this.

What Is This Bursary About?

The UJ Department of Marketing Management is part of the Universities College of Business and Economics – one of 8 faculties at the institution.

The UJ Department of Marketing Management offers a range of undergraduate degrees and diplomas, postgraduate degrees, and short courses in the fields of marketing and retail.

The Wholesale and Retail Sector Education and Training Authority (W&RSETA) is a public organization, formed to encourage skill development in the Wholesale and Retail sector by way of grants, bursaries, training, and learnerships.

W&RSETA is one of the UJ Marketing Sponsors, alongside other companies including Clover, PPS, Juta, Primedia, and Van Schaik.

The University of Johannesburg, partnered with the W&RSETA is inviting students to apply for bursary funding, for the 2023 academic year.

The bursary will cover Master’s and Ph.D. studies at the University of Johannesburg, preferably within these research areas:

  • Wholesale and Retail
  • Retail Marketing
  • Wholesale Business Development
  • Retail Business Management

Who Can Apply

Before applying, candidates must meet the minimum admission requirements listed below (please note that if you do not meet all of the requirements, your application will not be considered):

Master’s Degree Applicants:

  • You must be a resident of South Africa or a citizen of that country.
  • To enroll at the University of Johannesburg for the 2023 academic year, you must be registered.
  • Your approved Master’s or Ph.D. proposal must be focused on the aforementioned areas of choice.
  • You cannot be getting any other financial aid.
  • A BCom (Honors) degree in marketing or retail is required (or a related NQF 8 level qualification)
  • For Research Methodology at NQF 8 level, you must have received a minimum score of 60%, and your overall degree average must be at least 60%.
  • For a Master’s degree, you must be registered during the time frame permitted by the College of Business & Economics (CBE) (1 to 2 years for full-time studies and 2 to 3 years for part-time studies)
  • You must have a strong interest in retail.

Ph.D. Applicants:

  • You must be a resident of South Africa or a citizen of that country.
  • To enroll at the University of Johannesburg for the 2023 academic year, you must be registered.
  • Your approved Master’s or Ph.D. proposal must be focused on the aforementioned areas of choice.
  • You cannot be getting any other financial aid.
  • A master’s degree in marketing management is a must (or a related NQF 9 level qualification)
  • For Research Methodology at NQF 8 level, you must have received a minimum score of 60%, and your overall degree average must be at least 65%.
  • For a Master’s degree, you must be registered during the time frame permitted by the College of Business & Economics (CBE) (2 to 4 years for full-time studies and 2 to 5 years for part-time studies).

What Does This Bursary Cover?

In addition to paying for tuition and registration fees, the bursary will also pay for data collecting and language editing.

Awards for bursaries will be transferred to the recipient’s UJ student account.

The scholarship will be given for 4 years of Ph.D. study and 2 years of Master’s study.

Each year, cash will be given out if students make good academic progress (bursary recipients’ supervisors must send a letter regarding your progress each year, in order to release the funding for the following year).

How To Apply

Applications must be filed online via the Department of Marketing Management website at the University of Johannesburg (W&RSETA UJ Bursary Application) for new students.

Before the deadline, applicants must complete the entire application process and submit all necessary documentation.

Please send an email to wrsetagauteng@gmail.com if the Department Research and Ethics Committee (DREC) approves your plan.

They will then get in touch with you and provide you with a list of the supporting documents you need to submit your application.

Along with your completed application form, send in clear copies of the following supporting documents (submitting these documents is required; if any are missing, your application may be rejected):

  • Passport or ID card (certified copy).
  • Complete academic records that include the results of all higher levels of study (only academic records with marks, no certificates).
  • Curriculum vitae that includes the information below: course of education, credentials, career history, honors and achievements, and references you can contact.
  • Briefly describe your research interests, awards and accomplishments, involvement in national and international scientific committees, and any other notable positions in your biography that are not previously revealed in the application form.
  • A brief motivational letter outlining your reasons for receiving the scholarship and outlining your plans to enroll in classes or produce work in 2023 (maximum one A4 page, Arial font, font size 11).
  • Reference letter addressing your academic achievements.
  •  Letter from your UJ supervisor outlining the study’s findings, your academic progress, the projected deadline for submitting your dissertation or thesis, and if you qualify for the bursary.
  • letter from your UJ supervisor confirming your official enrollment in the Master’s or Doctoral program at UJ.
