National Arts Council (NAC) Postgraduate Bursaries 2026

The National Arts Council of South Africa invites applications for postgraduate study bursaries in the arts for the 2026 academic year, supporting advanced training and research that contributes to South Africa’s creative sector.

This is for post-graduate students involved in studies or provision of tuition in the fields of theatre, dance, crafts, literature, multidiscipline, music, visual arts, cultural policy, arts and culture management as well as any arts related course. This invitation also extends to students applying for Bachelor of Technology degree in the arts. Particular attention will be paid to post-graduate qualifications that address rare skills required in the arts sector.

The National Arts Council (NAC) is an agency of the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, funding excellence and development in the arts.

What is the bursary about?

Bursaries support tuition and related study costs for postgraduate qualifications at recognised institutions. Applicants must propose projects/areas aligned to NAC priorities.

Who can apply / eligibility

  • South African citizens registered/accepted for a postgraduate arts qualification in 2026.
  • Demonstrable artistic merit and financial need; complete application with all documents.

Closing date details

19 December 2025 at 11:59. Outcomes expected 30 January 2026.
