Closing Date

The Agbiz Centenary Bursary application period will end on 6 December 2022.

Please make sure to submit your application and any other supporting materials by this date.

Your application won’t be taken into account by the bursary provider if you don’t do this.

What Is This Bursary About?

The Agribusiness Centenary Bursary Fund was established to commemorate Agbiz’s 100th anniversary.

The purpose of the bursary is to encourage Master’s or Ph.D. level research in agribusiness-related subjects. Agbiz is a South African trade group for agribusinesses.

The bursary provides an annual grant of R41 000.00 to a South African student enrolled in a Master’s or Doctorate degree program in agriculture or agribusiness-related disciplines at any approved South African university.

Bursary recipients will be required to provide academic progress to Agbiz biannually from their academic supervisor or department head.

In the event of unsatisfactory academic reports or discontinuation of education, the bursary will be terminated, and the bursary holder will be obliged to repay the amount of the bursary, including interest, within two months after cancellation.

 Who Can Apply

This bursary will cater to the following applicants:

  • Citizens of South Africa
  • Students pursuing a Master’s or Ph.D. degree in agricultural economics or agribusiness management at any authorized South African university.
  • Applicants must have completed a relevant bachelor’s program or degree, or be in their final year of study towards an undergraduate qualification.
  • Applicants must have a minimum of 60% in major subjects.

What Does This Bursary Cover?

The bursary will cover study-related expenses valued at R41 000.

 Submit clear copies of the following supporting papers with your online application (submission of these documents are mandatory; if any elements are missing, your application may be disqualified):

  • A copy of your ID or other proof of RSA citizenship is required.
  • Proof of registration or a letter from the department head verifying admission eligibility.
  • To date, the study record shows that the undergraduate degree was successfully completed.
  • Letter of recommendation from an academic supervisor or department head (strictly no longer than one page).
  • Student motivation letter expressing why he/she needs the scholarship and how the bursary grant will be used (strictly no longer than one page).
  • Declaration of any other bursary or support program from which you benefit (if applicable).
