About the Bursary
The Eastern Cape DoE Unemployed Youth Bursary 2026 provides financial support to eligible students pursuing accredited programmes at public universities, universities of technology or TVET colleges.
The initiative is designed to grow critical and scarce skills, expand access to higher education for deserving youth, and strengthen service delivery within the relevant province or municipality.
Priority Fields of Study
- PGCE (with minimum two teaching subjects)
- BEd (Foundation, Intermediate, Senior/FET phases)
- Priority teaching subjects (e.g., Mathematics, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Geography, Technical subjects, Languages incl. isiXhosa, Sesotho, Afrikaans & English)
- Special needs areas (Braille, SASL, Remedial Teaching, Neurodevelopmental Needs)
Eligibility & Minimum Requirements
- Unemployed youth aged 18–35 residing in the Eastern Cape (special stream also available for dependants of Military Veterans and for youth with disabilities who are former ECDoE special‑school learners).
- Registration or provisional acceptance at a public higher education institution.
- Academic performance and demographic spread considered in selection.
What the Bursary Covers
Up to a maximum of R100,000 (as indicated in the advert), typically covering registration, tuition, residence, meals and books; paid directly to the institution. Renewal depends on academic progression.
Closing Date
Closing date: 2 December 2025. Late or incomplete applications are not accepted.
