The FEM Education Foundation (FEMEF) funds high-potential South African students for tertiary study, with an emphasis on critical-skills development and employability.
It is for individuals studying towards qualifications that contribute to their sector i.e. Faculty of Engineering & the Built Environment and the Faculty of Health Sciences. The programme supports full-time undergraduate study at accredited public institutions.

What is the bursary about?
Funding typically covers core study costs (tuition and essential allowances) for full-time students meeting the programme’s academic and financial-need criteria. Exact values, covered items and terms are set out on the provider’s portal.
Who can apply / eligibility
- South African citizens studying (or accepted) at a public university/UT/TVET college.
- Strong academic performance and verified financial need.
- All students must be in good financial standing with their university i.e. no outstanding fees from the previous academic years
- Preference will be given to students from disadvantaged backgrounds
- Combined household income must not exceed R 360 000,00 per annum
- Students with a good academic record
- Students who have been accepted to study at an approved institution or a South African public University
- Students must have successfully completed their first year of study i.e. no first year or post graduate students will be considered
Note this bursary is reserved for applicants from disadvantaged backgrounds and who do not have the means to fund their own studies
