The FirstRand Foundation Trust Bursary application period will end on 16 December 2022.

What Is This Bursary About?

In 1998, FirstRand Limited founded the FirstRand Foundation as its legal entity.

Its major franchisees, including as WesBank, RMB, and FNB, channeled their individual and collective corporate social investment through this foundation.

The FirstRand Foundation donates to non-profit organizations, whereas the FirstRand Educational Trust donates to educational programs and institutions.

Over the last two decades, the FirstRand Foundation has been a leading corporate social investor and knowledge collaborator.

They have pledged to contribute to the development of a better South Africa through increasing capacity, mainstreaming disability, sharing knowledge, and leveraging relationships.

Community development at the FirstRand Foundation includes investments in the creative economy, the green economy, food security and agriculture livelihoods, education, and a variety of other areas.

The FirstRand Foundation Trust Undergraduate Bursary for 2023 is now accepting applications.

It supports degree programs in business, engineering, science, and technology.

Who Can Apply

Make sure that you meet the following requirements set by the FirstRand foundation trust to be considered an ideal applicant:

You must be studying in the following fields:

  • Commerce: Financial Management, Economics, Law, Accounting, and Risk.
  • Engineering: All specializations.
  • Science: Statistics, Electronics, Physics, Climate sciences, Indigenous knowledge systems, Actuarial science, Society and sustainability, Data science, Mathematical sciences, Renewable energy, Biosciences, Environmental sciences, and Agricultural sciences.
  • Technology: Information science, Business information systems, Information management, Information systems, Computer science, and Information technology.

You will also need to meet the following criteria:

  • You must be a South African black citizen.
  • You must not be older than 21 years in your first year of study
  • You must have applied to and been provisionally admitted to a South African public traditional university for full-time studies in one of the above-mentioned degrees.
  • You must have received at least a level 5 in Mathematics in Grade 12.
  • You must be from the missing middle and be able to demonstrate that your combined yearly gross family income is between R350,000 and R600,000.
  • You must be in Grade 12 or have finished Grade 12 within the last three years.

What Does This Bursary Cover?

The bursary will provide financial cover for the following expenses:

  • Tuition fees
  • Learning resources
  • Accommodation
  • Meal
  • A monthly stipend
  • A computer for first-year students.
