Who Can Apply
The GEFT bursary program is available to financially disadvantaged South African students pursuing an Honors or Master’s degree.
The bursary program is open to students from all ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Students who participate in this bursary program will be entitled for all necessary help in finishing their academic degree or certificate program.
Subjects of study
Students majoring in Economics or Public Health are eligible for the GEFT bursary. Students pursuing courses in any comparable subject will also be eligible for the bursary.
The bursary covers honors and master’s degrees in the following fields:
- Economics
- Economic Science
- Behavioral Economics
- International Development
- Development Economics
- Applied Economics
- Public Health: Epidemiology or Health Economics
Students who apply for the bursary program must meet specific qualifying requirements. Failure to meet the eligibility standards may result in the application being rejected.
- The applicant must be a South African national.
- Students must be interested in earning an Honors or Master’s degree in Economics, Public Health, or a related field.
- Students must come from a low-income family (described by the Employment Equity Act 55 of 1998)
- Applicants must be willing to study or currently enrolled at a South African university.
- A minimum of 65% in one’s undergraduate or honors degree is required.
What Does This Bursary Cover?
The scholarship will cover the cost of tuition, stationery, and other required study supplies.
Depending on the availability of money and the committee’s judgment, the bursary may also cover extra expenses such as lodging, transportation, and so on.
