The Master Builders Association Western Cape (MBAWC) Bursary Programme 2026 is open for students pursuing built environment courses at institutions in the Western Cape. Applications close on 16 January 2026.

Who’s offering this bursary?
The bursary is offered by the Master Builders Association Western Cape (MBAWC), a construction industry association supporting training and skills development in the Western Cape. MBAWC encourages young people to pursue careers in civil and construction-related fields.
What the bursary covers
- Annual tuition fees only (no allowance for accommodation or books). Funding is paid in two tranches: half after registration and half after mid-year results, subject to academic progress.
- Renewal each year subject to satisfactory academic performance and fulfilment of conditions.

- Civil Engineering
- Construction Studies
- Construction Management
- Quantity Surveying
- Project Management
- Construction Health & Safety
- Advanced Diplomas, Honours, and Masters programmes in these disciplines
Who can apply? (Eligibility checklist)
- South African citizens who completed schooling in the Western Cape.
- Household income between R350 000 and R600 000 per annum (does not qualify for NSFAS).
- Enrolling or registered for a built environment course (degree, diploma or postgraduate) at a Western Cape institution for 2026.
- Preference given to applicants who are employees or family members of MBAWC member companies.
- No age limit.

- Completed MBAWC bursary application form (downloadable from the link below).
- Certified copy of South African ID.
- Grade 12 certificate or latest academic transcripts.
- Proof of acceptance or registration at a Western Cape institution for 2026.
- Proof of household income.
- Any additional supporting documents requested on the application form.
Key dates
- Opening date: early December 2025 (applications now open as per MBAWC website).
- Closing date: 16 January 2026.
- Notification: Successful applicants will be notified by 13 February 2026. If you do not hear back by 17 February 2026, consider your application unsuccessful.
Selection process
Shortlisting will be based on academic merit, financial need and commitment to a career in the built environment. Selected applicants may need to attend interviews. Renewal is subject to academic performance and adherence to conditions.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Not meeting the Western Cape residency or school completion requirement.
- Submitting incomplete or late applications.
- Applying if your household income exceeds R600 000 or if you qualify for NSFAS.
- Not following the instructions on the application form.
