What Is The Northam Zonderiende Bursary Program?

This bursary program was set up by the Northam Zonderiende mine, which is a primary supplier of platinum-group-metals (PGM) in South Africa.

The mine supplies the motor and jewelry market with well over 300 000 ounces of platinum-group-metals per year. With such a large operation, the company needs a skilled workforce to maintain and improve it constantly.

That’s why they have set up this program, to not only make things easier for students to get into this sector but to take away the financial burden that comes with it.

This bursary program does require students to meet the following requirements first if they wish to apply:

  • Applicants must be South African citizens
  • Applicants must have matriculated
  • Applicants must be studying in a mining-related field or planning to do so
  • Applicants need to be studying or at least provisionally accepted with a recognized tertiary institution in South Africa
  • Applicants need an overall average score of 60% for their Mathematics score in Matric
  • Applicants in tertiary education need an overall average score of 60% for all major subjects
  • Preference will be given to applicants residing near the mine, but all students across the country are welcome to apply
