Closing Date

This bursary program will be closing on 28 February 2022. Please ensure that your application along with the requested support documents is submitted before this date.

If you fail to do this, you will not be considered for selection for this bursary. If you do not receive any feedback from the Ratlou Municipality within 90 days, consider your application unsuccessful.

What Is The Ratlou Local Municipality Bursary Program?

The Ratlou Municipality is located in the North West province of South Africa. It is a fairly small and rural community that consists of 26 villages and local farms. Its main economic contributors are mining, tourism, and agriculture.

This bursary program was developed by the municipality to give exceptional students the chance to take their education further and grow a successful career that can give back to their community.

Who Can Apply?

The Ratlou Local Municipality Bursary program is open to students residing in the Ratlou area. It caters to students involved in the following fields regardless if they are full-time or part-time students:

  • Welding
  • Auditing
  • Waste Management
  • Civil Engineering
  • Water Reticulation
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Town and Regional Planning
  • Financial Management
  • Property and Land Valuation
  • Human Resources
  • Plumbing
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Painting

Students will also need to meet the following requirements set by the Ratlou Municipality:

  • Applicants must be South African citizens.
  • Applicants must reside in the Ratlou Municipality.
  • Applicants must have matriculated.
  • Applicants must be studying or intend to in one of the listed fields above.
  • Applicants need to be studying or intend to on a 3-year qualification (either full-time or part-time).
  • Applicants need to be studying or intend to with a tertiary institution registered with SAQA.
  • Applicants need a strong academic performance.
  • Applicants must come from a disadvantaged household with a monthly income of less than R3500.
  • Applicants must not be enrolled in another bursary program unless authorized to do so by the Ratlou Municipality.

What Does The Ratlou Local Municipality Bursary Program Cover?

This bursary will provide financial cover for a candidate’s registration fees, tuition fees, prescribed books, and student support. You will also receive a partial cover with accommodation fees too.

The program will not fully cover student expenses and the value of the bursary will be determined on a case-by-case basis that is allocated once a year.

The bursary is awarded for 1 year and is renewable based on the candidate’s academic performance. After their graduation, candidates will be required to work for the Ratlou Municipality for the same time they studied for.

  • Certified copies of your parents’ or guardians’ ID
  • Proof of household income
  • Proof of residence
  •  A testimonial from a previous employer, school, or supervisor
