SASSETA Bursary 2023-2024

Closing Date

Applications for the SASSETA Bursary will be closing on 14 April 2022.

Please make sure that your application is submitted by then along with all requested support documents. Failure to do so will result in your application not being accepted by SASSETA.

What is The SASSETA Bursary?

The organization SASSETA is inviting students to send in their applications for the Discretionary Grants 1st Funding Window Bursary program.

It will assist with financial cover for the 2022 academic year and will cater to 230 successful applicants.

The Safety and Security Sector Education and Training Authority (SASSETA) is an organization that was founded to moderate efficient training and education in the South African security and safety sector.

The organization has made it possible for various educational funding and work programs to materialize for students and graduates.

SASSETA is therefore responsible for creating many opportunities that have benefitted professionals and given them an advantage when they were students and graduates.

Please note that this bursary will give preference to applicants who are disabled, female, and do not have any other bursary funding from or NSFAS.

Who Can Apply

The SASSETA Bursary program is open to all students who are studying in the following fields:

  • Security Management
  • Clinical Social Work
  • Psychology
  • Information Technology
  • Pharmacy
  • LLB
  • Paralegal Studies
  • Nursing

Apart from this requirement, applicants will also need to meet the following criteria to be considered ideal candidates for this bursary:

  • Applicants must be South African citizens
  • Applicants must be between 18 and 35 years old
  • Applicants must have completed their matric year
  • Applicants must be studying or at least registered with a recognized South African public university or TVET college.
  • Applicants must have a household income of R600 000 or lower.
  • Applicants must be unemployed
  • Applicants must not be enrolled with any other SASSETA financial aid scheme for the current financial year.

What Does This Bursary Cover?

The SASSETA Bursary program will provide the following:

  • The sum of R80 000 towards tuition fees, prescribed books, accommodation, and university-approved meals for students enrolled in full-time studies.
  • The sum of R35 000 towards tuition fees and prescribed books for students enrolled in part-time or distance learning studies.

This bursary will be awarded for 1 year at a time but can be renewed on the condition that the student pass at least 60% of their modules including their major subjects.

  • A certified copy of your matric certificate or most recent academic results
  • Proof of registration
  • Certified copies of your parent’s or guardian’s IDs
