The Transport Education Training Authority (TETA) invites qualifying unemployed learners to apply for its bursary programme for the 2026 academic year. This initiative funds studies in various transport-related qualifications at accredited public and private universities, TVET colleges, aviation schools, and diving institutions.
What Is This Bursary Program?
The TETA Unemployed Bursary aims to assist learners entering careers related to the transport sector, including aviation, maritime, engineering, logistics, and related fields. The bursary covers:
- Tuition fees
- Accommodation (on or off campus)
- Transport costs (where applicable)
- Prescribed books
- Meals
This bursary is ideal for students pursuing qualifications critical to the growth and development of the South African transport industry.
Who Can Apply
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a South African citizen
- Be unemployed and between 18 and 35 years old
- Be currently in Grade 12 OR already completed matric
- Be accepted or registered at an accredited institution (university, TVET, aviation, or diving school)
- Achieve a minimum overall average of 50% in previous academic results
- Have a total household income of less than R350,000 per year
Eligible Fields of Study
The bursary funds a wide range of transport-related qualifications, including but not limited to:
- Engineering: Electrical, Mechanical, Marine, Aeronautical, Mechatronics
- Transport & Logistics: Supply Chain Management, Freight Forwarding, Customs Compliance, Transport Economics, Road & Maritime Transport Management
- Aviation: Private Pilot License (PPL), Commercial Pilot License (CPL), ATPL, Instructor & Instrument Ratings
- Maritime & Nautical Studies
- Information Technology & Cybersecurity
- Artificial Intelligence, Data Analytics & Business Intelligence
- Environmental Science, Risk Management, and Safety Management
- Finance & Accounting
- Diving Programmes: Class II, III, IV Diving certifications
Required Documentation
Applicants must upload the following certified documents (not older than 3 months):
- Certified copy of ID
- Matric certificate or latest academic results
- Proof of registration or acceptance
- Parents’/guardians’ ID documents
- Parents’/guardians’ proof of income (recent payslip or affidavit)
- Proof of valid aviation or diving licenses where applicable
- Medical examination results (for diving programmes)
- Accreditation proof for private institutions
⚠️ Important Notes:
- Submit one application per qualification — multiple applications will be disqualified.
- Applications missing any required documents will not be considered.
- Only online submissions are accepted.
