FEMEF Mike Ilsley Memorial Scholarship was established as a scholarship program.
It was named after Mike Ilsley in recognition of his commitment to education and his role as an ethical leader.
The FEMEF Mike Ilsley Memorial Scholarship is awarded on a competitive basis based on the candidate’s involvement in community-related activities, potential for future leadership, and, most importantly, a solid academic record.
This scholarship is available to South African first and second-year students studying to become Chartered Accountants (CA(SA)) at a SAICA-approved institution.
Aside from financial assistance, the FEMEF Mike Ilsley Memorial Scholarship provides students with mentorship, career development, and leadership opportunities.
The FEMEF Mike Ilsley Memorial Scholarship pays the entire cost of studies for undergraduate and honors degree students who meet the eligibility requirements.
Who Can Apply
This scholarship is available to chartered accounting students. Please note that applicants will also have to meet the following requirements:
- You must be a South African citizen.
- You must be a first- or second-year undergraduate student at a South African university that is accredited by SAICA.
- You must be pursuing a career as a Chartered Accountant (CA(SA)).
- You should have received an overall average of 70% and at least 70% in Financial Accounting.
- Your monthly gross household income should not exceed R25,000.
- You must have a strong academic background.
- You must have strong values and demonstrate great leadership abilities.
- You must be a responsible individual.
- You should be involved in community-related activities.
What Does This Scholarship Cover?
The scholarship will provide financial cover for a candidate’s study-related expenses. The extent of which will be disclosed to successful applicants.

Submit clear copies of the following supporting papers with your online application (submission of these documents are mandatory; if any elements are missing, your application may be disqualified):
- A certified copy of your identification is required.
- Authenticated copy of your matriculation certificate.
- On the institution’s letterhead, a complete academic record that contains the most recent findings.
- Proof of registration for the year 2022 on the institution’s letterhead.
- A letter of inspiration in support of your application.
- A certified copy of the parents’ or guardians’ ID evidence
- In the event that a parent has died, a certified copy of the death certificate is required.
- Certified documentation of parents’/guardians’ total household income, no more than three months old at the time of submission, which is:
- If you are employed, you must provide a payslip or an official statement of employment detailing your earnings.
- If you are self-employed, you must provide three months of bank statements for all personal bank accounts and IRPS for the fiscal year 2021/2022.
- If you work casually, you must provide three months of bank statements for all personal bank accounts.
- If you are unemployed, you must provide an affidavit proving it.
- In the absence of a bank account, you must submit an affidavit detailing your parent’s or guardian’s employment status and family income statistics.
- Please provide a detailed breakdown of your combined household’s gross monthly income.
- Submit a comprehensive breakdown of the number of persons in your family, their ages, and their various details.
- If you have applied for another scholarship or received financial assistance from another source (including NSFAS), you must submit the necessary paperwork.
