How selection and placement work
VCW has not published a full selection rubric on the advert. However, the application form collects academic performance, household income context, and motivation questions (including why you want a career in the water sector and how the bursary would support your goals). Meeting the basic criteria does not guarantee selection.
The form also asks you to select your municipality/district from a list of VCW-served municipalities in the Free State and Northern Cape (with a “None of the above” option). If you are outside these areas, submit honestly and consider confirming eligibility with VCW after applying.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Submitting after the deadline (applications close on 16 January 2026).
- Uploading unclear/uncertified documents (especially ID and academic results).
- Selecting a field of study that is not on the VCW list (choose “None of the above” only if you truly don’t match the listed options).
- Rushing the motivation questions — the portal sets a minimum word count.
