Hortgro is the industry association for South Africa’s deciduous fruit growers. Through its bursary programme, Hortgro invests in developing future leaders for the horticulture and agriculture sector by providing financial support and mentorship to students.
What is the Hortgro Bursary?
The bursary is aimed at undergraduate and postgraduate students pursuing studies related to agriculture and horticulture. It covers tuition and may provide additional support such as mentorship, industry exposure and training. Recipients are required to maintain good academic standing, submit quarterly progress updates and participate in Hortgro events. The bursary is renewable depending on performance.
Who can apply
- South African citizens who have completed or are completing matric.
- Applicants must be accepted or intend to study full‑time in an agricultural or horticultural field at a recognised South African institution.
- Candidates should demonstrate a keen interest in the deciduous fruit industry and financial need.
Eligible fields of study
Programmes supported include agri‑management, agricultural biotechnology, agricultural economics, entomology, horticulture, marketing, microbiology, plant pathology, project management, soil and water science and other disciplines relevant to horticulture and fruit production.

Applications close on 15 August 2025.
