KwaZulu-Natal students planning careers in film, television, digital media or tourism can apply for the KwaZulu-Natal Tourism and Film Authority Bursary Programme 2027. Funding supports eligible studies at recognised tertiary institutions within the province.

About the bursary
The Authority supports students preparing for careers in the province’s tourism and screen industries. Preference is given to previously disadvantaged applicants and people living with disabilities.
Fields of study
- Film and television production, animation and acting for film or television.
- Digital skills.
- Tourism-related qualifications, including heritage and cultural tourism, eco-tourism, hospitality management and tourism management.
Postgraduate applicants must be studying animation.
What the bursary covers
- Full tuition at public universities.
- Private institution tuition capped at government rates.
- A monthly allowance of R1,500.
- Accommodation for students living at least 50 km from their institution.
Who can apply?
South African citizens living in KwaZulu-Natal who are matriculants or undergraduate students may apply. You must be registered, or in the process of registering, for an eligible qualification at a recognised KwaZulu-Natal tertiary institution.
Documents to prepare
- Certified South African ID and proof of address.
- June 2026 Grade 12 results if in Matric, certified completed Matric results, or a current tertiary academic record, as applicable.
- Acceptance letter or proof of application to a KwaZulu-Natal institution.
- The institution’s 2027 fee schedule.
- Recent income evidence for parents, guardians or the person supporting you. Income evidence must be no older than three months. Do not use bank statements.
- Pension or benefit evidence where relevant, and affidavits explaining unemployment or an absent parent where applicable.
- Maintenance information for separated or divorced parents, or an explanatory affidavit.
- Disability evidence where applicable; a doctor’s letter is accepted.
Closing date and selection
Submit by 31 October 2026. Only successful candidates will receive correspondence.
