Who is offering this grant?
SAAFoST is a South African association for food scientists, technologists and other professionals serving the food and allied industries. The SAAFoST Foundation administers study grants and scholarships linked to Food Science and Food Technology programmes.
Eligibility
- Be a SAAFoST member for at least 12 months before application.
- Be a full-time student in an approved Food Science or Food Technology department at one of the listed institutions.
- Be in a BSc (Hons) year (university) or BTech year (university of technology).
- Have strong academics and maintain an average of at least 70% in previous years.
- Be nominated and recommended by your Head of Department (one nominee per institution).
What it covers
- R20 000 per award (total per student), paid to the institution towards fees.
Closing date
27 February 2026 (nominations and supporting documents must reach the SAAFoST Membership Development Officer by this date).

Common mistakes to avoid
- Trying to apply directly without a Department Head nomination.
- Submitting without proof of 12 months SAAFoST membership.
- Leaving out your full academic record or proof of registration.
- Waiting until the last day (department sign-offs can take time).
