UKZN Richard AD Turner Bursary 2022 – 2023

Some great news for Master’s Degree students! The University of KwaZulu-Natal is offering the chance for students to apply for their Richard AD Turner Bursary program.

The bursary is open to postgraduate students and caters to all fields related to trade unionism.

Closing Date

The UKZN Richard AD Turner Bursary program will be closing on 31 March 2021.

Please ensure that your application is complete and submitted by this date along with any requested support documentation.

Please note that if you fail to follow these instructions, your application will not be accepted by the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

What is This Bursary About?

The UKZN Richard AD Turner Bursary was established in honor of its namesake.

Richard “Rick” Turner was assassinated during the apartheid era and the bursary was established as a request from his late mother.

Turner held a significant influence amongst the university community and this bursary is a way of remembering his memory.

The bursary will be provided by the University of KwaZulu-Natal which hosts a number of campuses that specialize in various fields of study.

Who Can Apply?

This bursary is open to all Master’s Degree students. However, applicants will also need to meet the following requirements set by the bursary program:

  • Applicants must be enrolled in a field of expertise that relates to trade unionism.
  • Successful candidates must contribute to student leadership so long as they hold their bursary.
  • Applicants must have some involvement in community work that covers democratic tasks.
  • Applicants must have good leadership skills.
  • Applicants must be studying towards a Master’s Degree with the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

What Does The Bursary Cover

The bursary will provide financial cover for a student’s study-related fees.

The extent of this is undisclosed and is at the discretion of the University of KwaZulu-Natal and is dependent on the applicant’s circumstances.

How To Apply

Applications for this bursary are simple.

  • An updated CV
  • Your most recent certificate
  • A full academic transcript
  • One or more referee reports that highlight your leadership and community contributions
  • An abstract of your research dissertation proposal or a motivation for your chosen field of study
  • A motivational letter that supports why you would be an ideal candidate for this scholarship.
