The Northam Booysendaal Platinum Bursary aims to assist students who wish to further a career in engineering fields relative to the mining industry. Northam has established extensive training and development programs for the education of individuals with appropriate skills.
These skills combined with sufficient knowledge and experience can ensure a sufficient skill base for the company. Northam is an independent Platinum Group Metals (PGM) producer and integrates activities from underground mining, smelting, and metal base removal. Northam is a primary producer of platinum group metals.
Their main consumers reside in the motor manufacturing and jewelry industries. By establishing this bursary program, Northam is not only sustaining the mining industry but also their principal consumers too.
This Bursary closes on 14 May 2021. Please be aware that any applications submitted after the closing date will not be considered. If you haven’t heard from Northam within 3 weeks, consider your application unsuccessful.
What is the Northam Booysendaal Platinum Bursary?

Who can apply?
This bursary program is offered to second-year students studying in the following fields:
- Mining Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Metallurgical Engineering
Along with the above-mentioned engineering fields, Northam will also require applicants to meet the following requirements:
- Completed Matric year
- Matric pass in Mathematics
- Matric pass in Physical Science
- Intend to study one of the above Engineering fields
- Intend to study at a recognized tertiary institute
- Successfully passed all subjects from their first year of academic study.
Please note that applicants residing in the communities of Mashishing, Roossenekal, and Steelpoort will receive preference from Northam in their selection process.
What does the Bursary cover?
Northam Booysendal Platinum Bursary provides financial cover for second-year engineering students. The company also provides in-service training to successful candidates during their vacations.
Successful candidates are also entered into a two-year graduate internship program before being recruited into Northam’s workforce. You will be required to then work for the company on a full-time basis for the equal amount of time the bursary covered during study.
