The Silulumanzi Bursary is inviting students and undergraduates to join their external bursary scheme to bring on young and eager minds that can provide an advantage to the Silulumanzi water company and the City of Mbombela’s Local Municipality.

Students and undergraduates in technical and trade fields are encouraged to apply as they are the targeted candidates. Below is a breakdown of the Silulumanzi Bursary, how it operates, and what it expects from applicants.

Closing Date

Applications for this bursary closes on 30 November 2021. Make sure to include all requested support documents with your application to be considered for selection. Failure to do so will result in your application being disqualified.

Please be aware that only shortlisted applicants will be contacted by the Silulumanzi company. If you haven’t received any feedback from the bursary provider within a reasonable timeframe, consider your application unsuccessful.

What Is The Silulumanzi Bursary?

Silulumanzi is a private water company that provides water and waste services to the City of Mbombela. The company has been in operation since 1999 and is a subsidiary of South African Water Works (SAWW).

The company is responsible for providing the city’s residents with over 120 million liters of clean drinking water. Silulumanzi can only achieve this with the help of trained professionals, that is why they have established their bursary scheme.

They are looking for eager individuals who have an interest in their field to help keep their operations sustained. 

Who Can Apply?

Silulumanzi is looking for students and undergraduates studying in the following fields:

  • BSc Electrical Engineering (heavy/light current)
  • BSc Chemical Engineering
  • BSc Civil Engineering
  • BSc Mechanical Engineering
  • BSc Information Technology
  • BSc Quantity Survey
  • BSc Biology
  • ND Environmental Science
  • ND Water Care
  • Fitting and Machining
  • Fitting and Turning
  • Millwright
  • Instrumentation Mechanical

Applicants must meet the following requirements before applying:

  • Applicants must be South African citizens.
  • Applicants must have completed or are currently in matric.
  • Applicants must be studying or intend to in one of the listed fields.
  • Applicants need to be studying or intend to with a recognized tertiary institution.
  • Applicants must have an interest in the Water Industry.
  • Applicants need to have achieved at least a level 6 in Mathematics and Physical Science.
  • Applicants need to have a strong academic record.

Please be aware that the Silulumanzi Bursary will give preference to students that are female, previously disadvantaged, and disabled. Your application will also receive a higher consideration if you reside within proximity of the City of Mbombela.

What Does This Bursary Cover?

The Silulumanzi Bursary will provide financial cover for the following:

  • Tuition fees
  • Accommodation
  • Prescribed books
  • Registration
  • Study material

Please be aware that bursaries are awarded annually and are renewable every year based on a candidate’s academic performance. Once candidates have successfully graduated, they will be required to work for Silulumanzi on a fixed-term basis.

  • Certified copy of your matric certificate or latest matric results.
  • Proof of acceptance in a recognized tertiary institution.
  •  A full tertiary academic record (if studying in tertiary level education).
  • Breakdown of study-related expenses.
  • Proof of disability (if applicable).
  • Proof of annual household income.
  • A motivational letter that supports why you chose your field of study and why you would be a suitable candidate for this bursary.
