ADSA Bursary 2026

Introduction

The ADSA Bursary 2026 supports first-year dietetic students in South Africa who are in financial need and who show strong potential to succeed in the field of dietetics. The bursary is aimed at helping students progress through their studies by providing financial support from second year onwards, easing the cost of university and allowing them to focus on their academic and clinical training.

The Bursary Sponsor

The bursary is offered by the Association for Dietetics in South Africa (ADSA), the professional organisation for registered dietitians in South Africa. ADSA works to serve the interests of dietitians and to promote optimal nutrition and the nutritional well-being of all South Africans. The association supports the development of the dietetics profession through networking, education, and advocacy across multiple sectors, including clinical, community, private practice and industry.

What Is This Bursary Program?

The ADSA Bursary provides financial support to a first-year dietetic student who will continue with a Bachelor of Dietetics (or equivalent) at a South African university. Since 2013, ADSA has awarded this bursary annually to assist with the costs of further study. adsa.org.za

The bursary includes:

  • Funding awarded to one first-year dietetic student each year.
  • An annual bursary value of R36 000, paid into the student’s university account.
  • The funding is intended to support the second, third and fourth years of study, helping the recipient complete their dietetics degree.

Who Can Apply

According to ADSA, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a first-year dietetic student (currently in, or having completed, their first year of study in dietetics).
  • Not yet in second year of study at the time of application.
  • Postgraduate students are not eligible – this bursary is only for undergraduate dietetic students.
  • Must provide proof of financial need.
  • Must demonstrate leadership skills.
  • Must be a South African citizen.

Closing Date

Applications for the ADSA Bursary 2026 are open from:

  • Opening date: 6 October 2025
  • Closing date: 8 December 2025

Late or incomplete applications are unlikely to be considered, so students are encouraged to apply well before the closing date.
