DWS Department of Water and Sanitation Bursary 2023-2024

The Department of Water and Sanitation Bursary is providing the opportunity for financial backing to students who are looking to pursue a field of study in the water and sanitation sector.

The Department of Water and Sanitation is one of the country’s government departments responsible for maintaining clean water and sanitation.

Due to this sector being so scarce in South Africa, the department has established this bursary along with a learning center that aims to help students complete their studies in the water and sanitation sector.

This Bursary closes on 31 October 2021. Please ensure that you submit a complete form and requested supporting documents before this date when applying for this bursary. Failure to do so will result in your application being dismissed.

What is the DWS Bursary?

The DWS Bursary is aimed at students who are studying in tertiary fields that can benefit the Department. The DWS is specifically looking for students who are studying in specific science sectors.

The DWS will award the bursary to both undergraduates and postgraduates. Students will also need to be studying at specific institutions to be awarded the bursary. The Department’s goal is to bring more innovative minds and workforce to its sector.

By providing this bursary, the DWS seeks to remedy the innovative scarcity in its sector.

The DWS has also set various eligibility requirements that all applicants must meet to be considered for this bursary:

  • Applicants must be South African citizens.
  • Applicants must have completed or are currently in their Matric year.
  • Applicants must be studying or intend to study a full-time course of the study disciplines listed above.
  • Applicants must be going into their first or second tertiary academic year by 2022.
  • Applicants must be or intend to study at the listed tertiary institutions.
  • Applicants are expected to have a high performance in academics.
  • Applicants will need to prove their need for financial aid.
  • Applicants cannot currently be enrolled in another bursary program while applying for the DWS Bursary.
  • Applicants with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
  • Preference will be given to applicants that are financially needy and come from disadvantaged backgrounds.

What Does This Bursary Cover?

The DWS Bursary provides financial support for a candidate’s tuition fees, prescribed books, accommodation, meals, registration fees, and a small allowance. Once completed with their studies, candidates will be required to join the DWS’s Learning Academy for a minimum of 3 years.

The DWS Bursary application process is quite simple. All you need to do is download and complete the application form found here. Once you have completed your application, you will need to send it to the DWS via email at the following address: bursaries@dws.gov.za

When submitting your application, make sure to include the following support documents:

  • A certified copy of your ID.
  • Certified copies of your Grade 11 and latest Matric results where applicable.
  • A certified copy of your Matric certificate if available.
  • A certified copy of an updated record of tertiary education if available.
  • Proof of application to a tertiary institution.
  • Proof of parents/guardian income.

Make sure to include these documents with your application where applicable.
